Friction Stir Welding Tool
Friction stir welding (FSW) is a technique that uses frictional heat generated by the rotation of a tool to join two metal sheets together.SYTOP works closely with various customers in the Friction Stir Welding industry to provide customized FSW tools to customers worldwide. We have been manufacturing cobalt alloy friction stir welding tools since 1996.
What is the Difference between Traditional Welding Processes and Friction Stir Welding?
Unlike conventional methods of melting and welding materials, FSW uses stirring and continuous friction at temperatures below the melting point to produce thermally softened materials.
1. The joining temperature is lower than the melting point
2. Intersection direction
3. Spindle thrust
4. Tool rotation direction
5. Shoulder
6. Probe
7. Axial plastic flow
8. Rotational plastic flow
What are the Benefits of Friction Stir Welding?
- No other welding consumables are required, and no material is melted; welding with less deformation and distortion can be achieved.
- Ability to weld the same or different materials
- No gas, smoke, sputtering, plasma, or X-rays are emitted. Safe and comfortable working environment
Applications of Friction Stir Welding (FSW)
- Aerospace Industry: FSW is extensively used in the aerospace sector for joining aluminum alloys, ensuring high-strength, lightweight, and durable components for aircraft.
- Automotive Industry: In the automotive industry, FSW is applied to join aluminum and steel alloys, offering improved safety, efficiency, and weight reduction for vehicle parts.
- Shipbuilding Industry: FSW plays a critical role in shipbuilding, enabling the effective joining of aluminum and steel alloys to create robust and corrosion-resistant structures.
- Railway Industry: In the railway sector, FSW welds aluminum and steel alloys, enhancing the strength and longevity of railway components under high stress.
